I just got my Comic Bento in the mail yesterday, and this is what I got. Comics Bento is a subscription service where you pay $25 (including shipping or less if you pay for three to 12 months at a time) a month and get $60 worth of comics. The catch? The first comic in February 2016: Amped is The Edge of Spider-Verse, an Amazing Spider-Man collection. This I'm amped for. I bought the Spider-Verse collection off ComiXology for $12, and this is an introduction to five of the different "Spiders" in the story arc. I might even read it today. This is definitely something I would have bought.
The next comic is Death Sentence #1 by Montynero, with art by Mike Dowling. I wasn't terribly amped for this, although I am a fan of Titan Comics, as they have been printing Jodorowsky's newer stuff in English. This is a super-powered story of three people who get infected with the G+ virus, which gives them extraordinary powers but leaves them dead after six months, which is an interesting concept. What would you do if you had six months as a meta-human? Would you do good? Or evil? I might read this comic.
Third is Put the Book Back on the Shelf: A Belle and Sebastian Anthology, which refers to the Scottish pop-punk band, not the annoying cartoon from Nickelodeon. The cover drew me in immediately, and the variety of artwork and writing make this an interesting book. Rick Remender does one of the stories, and I can't imagine him getting involved in something terrible. I'll probably read this comic.
Finally is Alice Cooper, Volume 1: Welcome to My Nightmare. I wasn't amped about this at all until I saw some of the collaborators involved in this venture. Simon Bowland does the letters, and it's on Dynamite Entertainment. Joe Harris, who wrote Great Pacific, wrote most of this book. I guess I might read it, but I'm absolutely not an Alice Cooper fan.
The verdict? I'm going month-by-month with Comic Bento, and I'll definitely get March 2016: Powerless. Last month, I only read one of the four volumes, and I think I'll read at least two of them this month, maybe three or even four.
